Xijie Street is a must-see when traveling to Quanzhou, but you should also spend half a day visiting Wulin Traditional Village. Compared to the bustling Xijie Street, I prefer the ancient buildings here. Spend half a day wandering around and feel the unique charm of the Nanyang-style buildings that have stood for a hundred years. It's a wonderful experience.
Wulin Village was built by early overseas Chinese who returned to China. Minnan and Nanyang-style buildings are perfectly integrated here. Strolling through the village, you will see beautiful sights such as hundred-year-old wells and old trees with gnarled roots. Girls who love taking photos can take a set of unique Peranakan photos here.
Travel route
Chaodong Building → Theater → Wuceng Temple → Kengqiang Building → Qiaopi Museum → Heyue Culture Museum → Juruo Ancient House Bookstore
Highlights
Chaodong Building: As the starting point of Wulin Village, this three-story Western-style building is composed of a main building, a back building, and a domed gatehouse on the right. It is a great place to take photos.
Qiaopi Museum: Also known as "Shunyi Building", it is built with Minnan red bricks and exudes a Spanish style. It is now a post office and a famous local landmark.
Gun Tower (Xiuyang Building): A Roman-style building originally used to protect the village. The view of the ancient village from here is stunning.
Wuceng House: Built in 1936, this five-story Roman-style Western building retains the traditional structure of Minnan houses on the first and second floors. It was carefully designed by a British designer.
Juruo Ancient House Bookstore: A two-story ancient house with a unique environment. During the New Year, it is decorated with festive decorations. The photos taken on the second-floor terrace are beautiful.
