Yomjinda Road, a historic district in Rayong Province, was once a major commercial and economic hub for the eastern coastal city. Today, the area is lined with historic two-story houses that tell the story of the city's history. One such building is the former Sino-Portuguese-style "Ki Phong Building," built around 1913 and renovated into "Laan Ek Coffeehouse," a cafe whose name reflects the connection between generations and their ancestral roots.

The ground floor of "Laan Ek Coffeehouse" features a high, open hallway, furnished with warm wood and leather furniture, and a central coffee bar, reminiscent of a Rayong living room. The upper floor is an art space, showcasing rotating exhibitions by local artists in a variety of styles. This café serves as a meeting point and creative space for the community in this historic neighborhood.

Laan Ek's distinctive feature is its preservation of almost all of the original architecture, including the wooden structure, pillars, beams, ceilings, and wooden folding doors in front of the store. The building's facade showcases the early Sino-Portuguese facade of the Eastern region. The concrete railings and wooden fretwork at the base of the roof convey the beauty of the colonial era, which seamlessly blends Western influences with Chinese culture.

With a new lease on life for an old building, "Lan Ek Coffee House" is not just a cafe in an old neighborhood, but also an example of design that keeps the past alive. It's at the heart of the revitalization of Yomjinda's old town, and a space where people can reconnect with its history and architecture in a warm and contemporary way.
