⛰ A breathtaking hike to cleanse your soul at Mount Ishizuchi, one of Japan's Seven Sacred Mountains

#0YenTravel2025Autumn

Mount Ishizuchi (1,982m above sea level), towering over Ehime Prefecture, is the highest peak in western Japan and one of Japan's Seven Sacred Mountains.
The mountain itself is an object of worship, and has long been beloved by many as a "divine mountain."

While there are several hiking trails, the most popular is the Omotesando Route, which takes you up via ropeway.
The Ishizuchi Mountain Ropeway soars to an elevation of around 1,300m, and from there it takes about 2-3 hours to reach the summit.
There's also a steep chain section along the way, which is thrilling!
But the view of the sea of clouds from the top of the rocks and the Seto Inland Sea on a clear day is truly "heavenly." 🌤

At the summit, Mount Tengu, standing on the rock face feels like walking in the sky.
A breathtaking view awaits, so powerful it'll blow away any fatigue you may have. ✨

After descending, take a break at the foot of the mountain with a soothing hot spring and local cuisine.
Filled with nature, a sense of accomplishment, and a sacred atmosphere, this truly is a "heart-cleansing hike." 🍃

🚗 Access

📍 Saijo City/Kumakogen Town, Ehime Prefecture
🚉 Approximately 2.5 hours by bus and ropeway from Matsuyama Station.
🧗♀️ Hiking Level: Intermediate (features chain sections; beginners are advised to avoid overexertion and take the detour.)
⏰ Total Time: Approximately 5-6 hours round trip (using the ropeway)

Unfortunately, it rained when I went, so I couldn't see the starry sky or the spectacular view, but the sense of accomplishment left me feeling incredibly satisfied!
