Sakai - How many people have heard of or visited this place?
While many travelers pass through Sakai on their way to Osaka, whether by bus or train from Kansai Airport, it seems to lack major tourist appeal, resulting in fewer visitors.
However, if you've been to Osaka multiple times and are familiar with its attractions, Sakai could be a great spot for a leisurely stroll. It's easily accessible via Nankai Electric Railway and JR lines.
For those staying in Osaka city, I recommend taking the Hankai Tram from Tennoji to Sakai. The tram conveniently reaches the moat-surrounded area, which was once the bustling center of ancient Sakai.
I particularly recommend visiting the Yamaguchi Residence (Photos 5-9). This is the only surviving building in Japan from the early Edo period, standing strong for over 400 years. Its high-ceiling design is also a rare feature in traditional Japanese architecture.

For accommodation, staying near Nankai Electric Railway's Sakai-Higashi Station is convenient. The area has plenty of shopping streets and restaurants, and the station is located right next to Takashimaya department store.
