[Osaka] Sakai City Yamaguchi Family Residence

#AbsolutelyFreeTrip

The Yamaguchi Family Residence is a townhouse built in the early Edo period, and was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in 1966.
The main house was built immediately after the city burned down in the Battle of Osaka in 1615, so it has a history of over 400 years!
It is a very valuable building nationwide for learning about townhouses in the early modern period.
During the Edo period, the family served as village headmen for neighboring rural areas, and also played a role in connecting the magistrate's office with the townspeople and villagers.
In the Sakai Daiedu (Great Picture Map of Sakai) of 1689, the house is written under the name of the Yamaguchi family, "Echizen-ya," with the Yamaguchi-suji to the east facing the front.

On the north side, there is a garden centered around a 200-year-old large hazel tree, which can be viewed from the main house.
The autumn leaves are recommended✨

A volunteer from Sakai City gave us a detailed explanation, and it was very informative.
