[Osaka] Tsukishima Shrine, Sakai City

Tsukishima Shrine is located near the AEON Mall in Sakai Teppo.
Main Deity: Sumiyoshi-no-Okami
Ikukunitama-no-Okami

After the Yamato River was diverted toward Sakai in 1704, sand accumulated in the surrounding area, forming a sandbar. New rice paddy development was undertaken on this sandbar, but frequent disasters prevented the project from progressing.
To pray for the safe completion of the project,
Yagoro Dobashi founded this shrine in 1737.
The shrine enshrined the three major deities, and the project proceeded smoothly and successfully, becoming the local guardian deity.

The shrine grounds are home to a city-preserved camphor tree and the city's largest racemo tree. A kagura lion parade is held during the August summer festival.
