Star Observatory Green Space: A Cherry Blossom Viewing Spot Between Sapporo and Otaru

On the way from Sapporo to Otaru, just before approaching Ishikari Bay, you'll pass by JR Hoshimi Station. Right outside the station lies "Star Observatory Green Space," the only buffer green park in Sapporo's city center. This park offers a blend of mountain and sea views, along with spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage. It's not only a popular cherry blossom viewing spot near Sapporo but also a great place for stargazing at night.

The park features around 400 cherry trees, including the common white Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms and the unique pink Ezo mountain cherry blossoms native to Hokkaido. With the green space and blue sky as the backdrop, it's a picturesque location for photography. In autumn, the red and yellow hues of the foliage on both sides of Mount Teine create a stunning landscape.

From Sapporo Station, you can take the JR Hakodate Main Line and reach the park in just 23 minutes after passing 9 stations. If you're heading to Otaru, it's only 5 stations and 21 minutes away. It's a perfect spot for a short stop to enjoy the cherry blossoms. The mountain and sea green spaces of Hokkaido are always captivating.
