Sapporo Maruyama Zoo: A Window into the Ecology of the North

Founded in 1951, Sapporo Maruyama Zoo is the first zoo in Hokkaido. Built on the Maruyama natural forest, the zoo is based on the concept of "life symbiosis" and breeds about 170 species and a total of 900 animals, with a particular focus on displaying cold-zone species.
