"Neuschwanstein Castle" is a beautiful white castle in Bavaria, southern Germany.
Also known as the "Swan Castle," it is also famous as the model for Cinderella Castle.
Built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century, its beautiful white appearance standing in a green forest is like something out of a storybook.
To get a great view of Neuschwanstein Castle, stop by Marienbrücke.
The view of the castle from there is overwhelming.
Contrary to the castle's glamorous appearance, which was built at great expense, the life of the romantic Ludwig II was a sad one.
The king lived in Neuschwanstein Castle for only 172 days.
A time-specified guided tour ticket is required to enter, and can be purchased on-site, but it may be sold out during peak seasons, so it is best to purchase a ticket online in advance. (Even if you make a reservation in advance, you must exchange your ticket at the ticket booth at least 1.5 hours before the reservation time.)
From Munich, it takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to get to Hohenschwangau village, where the castle is located, by Deutsche Bahn or bus.
Since it's a hassle to transfer, I joined a bus tour from Munich.
The ticket fee is included, so it was very convenient and good.
