Background
Sea Star Resort Semporna is a serene over-water resort that opened in 2020, tucked just a few minutes by boat away from the town of Semporna, Sabah. It offers “water villas” built on stilts over shallow turquoise waters, combining modern comfort (A/C, hot water, WiFi) with a laid-back island ambience. The resort is also quite accessible — about 5 minutes from Semporna town — so you get both remoteness and convenience.
Why It’s Worth Visiting
One of the big draws is marine life you can reach from the resort itself: snorkeling right off your villa or via house reef, transparent kayaks, and easy access to island-hopping tours. For room experience, sea-view water villas with direct balcony access above water, calming sea breezes and views are standout. The food gets praise too — buffet meals at the in-house restaurant with a variety of options; staff are often described as friendly and attentive.
My Impression
Staying here feels like pressing “pause” on everyday life. Waking up in a water villa with the sea below, slipping into snorkeling from your own balcony, watching the sunset across still water — these are moments that stay with you. It isn’t ultra-luxury or flashy, but its strength lies in how peaceful, genuine, and beautifully simple it is. If you want marine beauty, relaxation, and somewhere that feels more like nature’s pace than city hustle, Sea Star Resort delivers in a way that feels special.
