In 1441, at the request of Rantei Myogyoku Zenni, wife of the 9th Date Masamune, the 11th Date Masamune founded the temple in Yanagawa, Fukushima Prefecture, and in 1602, during the reign of the 17th Date Masamune, it took on its current form as the Date Masamune moved the castle.
The strolling garden on the grounds is filled with flowers that bloom with the seasons, bringing peace of mind.
Rinno-ji Zen Garden, with its photogenic towering three-story pagoda, is known as one of the most famous gardens in the Tohoku region. From spring to summer, flowers such as cherry blossoms, irises, hydrangeas, and lotus flowers, in autumn the gorgeous autumn leaves, and in winter the pine trees surrounded by snow hangings highlight the beauty of the garden.
