This museum showcases the history and culture of Date Masamune and the Sendai domain. Its collection includes approximately 90,000 items, including Masamune's "Black Lacquer Five-Plate Armor," swords, and art and crafts. Completed in 1986, the building was designed by Takeo Sato Architects and is acclaimed for its stately architecture, harmonizing with the surrounding natural surroundings of Mount Aoba and the Hirose River. The building was also awarded the JIA "25-Year Architecture Award." It is currently undergoing extensive renovations and is scheduled to reopen in the fall of 2024.
