Located in the ancient city of Shangqiu, the former residence of Hou Xun is one of Shangqiu's most celebrated historical figures, a family of prominent officials and scholars. He served as Minister of Revenue during the reigns of the Wanli, Tianqi, and Chongzhen emperors, and was a prominent member of the Donglin Party, promoting the renowned Zuo Guangdou and Yang Lian. While he himself was not particularly famous, his son, Hou Fangyu, left a lasting legacy in history. Hou Fangyu was a renowned scholar of the late Ming Dynasty, and his love story with the Qinhuai courtesan Li Xiangjun was translated into "Peach Blossom Fan" by the renowned operatist Kong Shangren. The residence features Hou Fangyu's Zhuanghui Hall and the Jade Tower, where Li Xiangjun lived, each boasting unique architectural features.
It is an ancient building from the late Ming Dynasty, located on Zhongshan Street, the central avenue of Shangqiu Ancient City. It has a hall, east and west wing rooms, etc., with carved beams and painted buildings, and a beautiful courtyard full of superb art of Han architecture.
With a temperate monsoon climate, Shangqiu Ancient City has a few relatively well-preserved historical sites, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
A building on Zhongshan Street, the central avenue of Shangqiu Ancient City, has a main hall, east and west wing rooms, etc., with carved beams and painted buildings, and a beautiful courtyard full of superb art of Han architecture, suitable for leisurely strolls and sightseeing.
