Nestled between the vibrant neighborhoods of Insadong and Samcheong-dong, I discovered Bukchon Hanok Village—a place where the old world still lingers in the midst of modern Seoul. As I wandered through the narrow alleys, I was transported back in time, surrounded by beautifully preserved hanoks (traditional Korean houses) that date back to the Joseon Dynasty. The charm of Bukchon lies in its perfect fusion of history and everyday life, as these ancient homes are still lived in by locals.
The area is a photographer’s dream, with its picturesque rooftops, stone pathways, and lush gardens. My travel tip: wear comfortable shoes, as the village’s hilly terrain can be a bit tricky to navigate. And be sure to visit the Bukchon Cultural Center for a deeper insight into the village’s rich history. If you’re in Seoul, Bukchon Hanok Village is an absolute must-see—an authentic cultural experience that offers a rare glimpse into Korea’s past.
