This popular Korean bakery specializes in freshly baked toast and raw bread. Its courtyard, complete with a wooden pier and a small garden, feels like a rural courtyard brought to Seongsu.
• Shop Name: Standard Bread (스탠다드 브레드) Seongsu Branch
• Address: 37 Seongsui-ro 18-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul 📍 Walking distance from Seongsu Station Exit 3.
• Hours: Daily 9:00 AM–9:00 PM (subject to official announcement).
• Price Range: Typical single-item breads range from 5,000–10,000 JPY. Coffee and drinks are also available.

Background and a Brief History: Starting in Seongsu, Making "Fresh Baking" a Brand Memoir
Seongsu has recently been dubbed the "Brooklyn of Seoul," with old factories now housed in design studios and cafes. The neighborhood's slow pace and artisanal feel are a perfect fit for a bakery. Standard Bread focuses on freshly baked goods and a variety of bread flavors. They maintain a daily operating schedule of 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and clearly display their locations and branch information on their social media and website. Many on-site visits and product reviews note that their stores bake bread at regular intervals (approximately every 20–30 minutes), ensuring you can almost always get piping hot bread.

Take a walk through the photos: a wooden pier, a small courtyard, and a rack full of bread
The photos you provided matched my experience: outside the entrance, a small garden and wooden pier, white parasols, and meticulously layered plantings create a small courtyard in the city. Pushing the door open, to the right is the baking area and display racks, rows of square breads like little building blocks. The wooden sign "Standard Bread" on the door lintel feels handmade, and through the transparent display window, you can see the chef shaping and baking the bread. The air is filled with the aroma of butter and baking.
I bought three items this time:
• Salted Butter Fresh Bread: Thin and crispy on the outside, soft and springy on the inside. A touch of salt and butter adds just the right amount of flavor—one of their signature flavors.
• Classic Fresh Bread: Finely textured, retains moisture even after being baked the next day.
• Brioche Toast/Seasonal Flavor: High in butter content and mellow in flavor, perfect for breakfast or sandwiches.
The shop also serves coffee, lattes, and sparkling drinks. If you prefer to sit for a while, the high-top area by the window or the outdoor umbrella seats are both comfortable. Prices are generally affordable: ¥3,000–¥5,000 for a classic toast and a walk away.

How to Order? First-Time Visitor's "Three Steps"
1. Get your toast: A sign at the entrance will indicate when it was baked. If it's fresh out of the oven, the salted butter raw pan is a must-try. For a different flavor, the brioche/corn flavor is also popular.
2. Pair with a drink: An Americano or latte pairs best with buttery bread; in the summer, opt for a sparkling drink to help with the greasiness. 3. Finally, explore the surrounding area: Bread bag in hand, walk through the small courtyard to take photos, then follow Seongsu Alley to other cafes and select shops. Half a day will be enough.

The Relationship between Seongsu and the Neighborhood: Why is the Small Garden Important?
Many people love taking photos of Standard Bread, not just because the bread is delicious, but because it turns "waiting for bread out of the oven" into a scenic experience:
• The outdoor waiting area features a wooden pier and greenery, making waiting in line less stressful;
• The large windows allow you to see the bread being made;
• The courtyard scale is particularly soothing in an old industrial streetscape like Seongsu.
This "visualizing time" design has also become a key phrase for brands expanding to Dosan and Haeundae.
⸻
Transportation and Neighborhood Connections (My Observed Routes)
• How to Get There: Seongsu Station (Subway Line 2), Exit 3, about an 8-10 minute walk. Foreign travelers can easily find it using the Korean address or English street names.
• How to Visit: Buy bread → Take photos in the courtyard → Walk to a nearby boutique or design exhibition; Shengshui is a great place for strolling, and it's not far from Center Coffee, Grandpa Factory, and other places.
• Duration of Stay: If you're stuck in a line, 30–60 minutes is perfect; during off-peak hours, 20 minutes is enough to finish shopping and taking photos.
⸻
Seven Reasons I Recommend Standard Bread Shengshui
1. Frequent Baking: Fresh batches are baked most days, so you're more likely to get warm bread.
2. Consistent Taste: The salted butter bread and classic toast are safe bets, and they're equally delicious the next day.
3. Affordable Prices: Perfect for breakfast on the go.
4. The courtyard is perfect for photos: The wooden pier, greenery, and glass display cases create stunning photos.
5. Convenient Location: Within walking distance of Seongsu Station, it blends seamlessly with the surrounding cafes and design shops.
6. Brand Extension: We can also serve this bread in Gangnam, Seoul, and Busan; if you like it, you can revisit it in other cities.
7. Experiential Design: You can "see" the baking process, making waiting for bread a relaxing moment.
My Real Moment
Tucked the paper bag under my arm, I stood on the wooden pier in the courtyard, watching the light and shadows play. The freshly baked salted butter pancakes were still warm, and as I tore them open, I could hear the delicate crackling of the fabric. The first bite was butter, the second a touch of salt, and the third, only silence. In the courtyard, some people took photos, while others looked down at the dough rising behind the glass—in Seongsu, even the wait for bread is beautiful. 🙂
