Located at 108 West Nanjing Road, Shanghai Jinmen Hotel is one of Shanghai's outstanding historical buildings. Originally known as Hua'an Building, Jinmen Hotel was originally the site of the first Chinese insurance company in Shanghai, Hua'an Hequn Life Insurance Company, founded by Chinese businessmen.
Jinmen Hotel, an Italian-style building, was founded in 1926 and designed by the American architectural firm Harshad & Co. It was once the tallest building in the Ten Mile Foreign Market. After the Battle of Songhu on August 13, the building was rented by Hong Kong Chinese and renamed "Jinmen Hotel". In 1958, the hotel was renamed Overseas Chinese Hotel, becoming an elegant residence for overseas Chinese traveling to and from the mainland. In 1992, the hotel reverted to its original name, "Jinmen Hotel", and has remained unchanged to this day.
Jinmen Hotel was once a gathering place for celebrities and socialites in old Shanghai. For example, the legendary singer of the Republic of China, Li Xianglan, was a regular visitor here...
