The Shanghai Museum is one of the China's top museums, renowned for its extensive collection of ancient Chinese art and artifacts. The museum houses over 120,000 world-class collections including ancient bronzes, ceramics, calligraphy, paintings, jade and Ming & Qing furniture.
We had visited the museum couple of weeks before, the exhibits are well-organized by theme such as Ancient Bronze Gallery, Ceramic Gallery & Calligraphy Gallery etc.
We literally impressed by its stunning architecture, which features a round-top, square-base design symbolizes ancient Chinese cosmology "Heaven is round, Earth is square".
Overall, visiting the Shanghai Museum was an awe-inspiring experience to us, especially for history & artifact, art & culture buffs like us.
⏩ The Shanghai Museum offers FREE admission to its permanent exhibitions, but need to make an online reservation in advance through WeChat with a valid ID. The museum also provides audio guides (for a small fee) and English descriptions.
⏩ The museum is open daily from 9:00 am - 5:00pm(last entry is 4:00pm). It is closed on Mondays. The best time to visit is on weekday mornings for fewer crowds.
⏩ Nearby attractions: People’s Park, Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street, The Bund, Shanghai Natural History Museum and Madame Tussauds Shanghai.
📍 201 Renmin Avenue, near People’s Square (People’s Square Station, Exit 1).
