Shanghai Chongming Island‖Relaxing Trip

Day 1: Self-driving to Dongping National Forest Park
Since the elders have mobility issues, we chose this most famous park. There’s a small train to ride, where you can get off and on again, enjoy the trees and flowers, and there aren’t many people. We heard there are wild reindeer but didn’t get lucky; only saw the little deer at the Deer Paradise. The staff here aren’t very clear when giving directions and sometimes point the wrong way, so it’s recommended to use your phone map.
Day 2: The Freshest Road
A riverside road suitable for cycling, nothing special but cycling here feels quite free. The flower cart at the main entrance costs 50 yuan for an hour, enough for a round trip, super worth it (trip date: May 1, 2025).
Day 3: Xisha Pearl Lake Scenic Area
Here, the main transport is electric carts, 30 yuan each, or you can rent a small electric cart for about 210 yuan/hour. If you’re not familiar with the route, it’s best to just relax and let it go. The park’s electric carts are pretty good, the whole trip takes 20 minutes, and you can get off and on midway. Walking might take about 2 hours. It’s a natural oxygen bar with different scented forests along the way; the camphor trees smell especially nice [Cute].
Day 4: Return via Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge
After lunch, we set off. Despite the traffic jam, we caught a sea sunset, which was pretty nice~
If there’s traffic, it takes 4 hours to get back to Shanghai. Everyone should stay calm, leave early, and prepare food and drinks. There’s a rest stop with good food before entering the underwater tunnel.
