Encounter the classic Art Deco style hotel

Visiting the classic buildings of Shanghai Bund for the first time, I took photos and explored along the way, amazed to discover that the Art Deco style we often admire in Shanghai Bund actually originated here. I immediately booked a room to fully experience and perfect this trip.

Shanghai New City Hotel, now known as "Jinjiang Metropolo Classiq Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street Bund New City Hotel," is located at No. 180 Jiangxi Middle Road, Huangpu District. It sits at the intersection of the Bund and East Nanjing Road, close to Yuyuan Garden and People’s Square, with a prime location within walking distance to many famous attractions.

History and Architectural Features

Originally named "Metropole Hotel," it was funded by the Sassoon family in 1930 and designed by the British firm Palmer & Turner. The architectural style is a typical Art Deco, with 14 floors, a symmetrical and dynamic exterior, once praised as the "Little Peace Hotel." The hotel has hosted many celebrities, such as Mr. Mei Lanfang and American writer Emily Hahn. In 2016, Jinjiang International Group restored and renovated the hotel, preserving its historical appearance, and redesigned it with the globally renowned HBA company, blending modern facilities with the charm of historic architecture.
