From Yuyuan Garden to Downtown Shanghai – A One-Day Shanghai Travel Plan

If you only have one day in Shanghai, we recommend a course that captures both tradition and modernity.
At the center of this is Yuyuan Garden, the essence of classical Chinese beauty.

Morning – Explore Yuyuan Garden
Located within the old city center of Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden was built during the Ming Dynasty.
It is a quintessential Chinese garden featuring ornate roofs, delicate stone structures, ponds, and pavilions in perfect harmony.
After touring Yuyuan Garden, right outside is the Yuyuan Bazaar market,
where you can also enjoy local foods like xiaolongbao and five-spice beef jerky.

Afternoon – Head to Downtown (Nanjing East Road & The Bund)
Nanjing East Road, about a 10-15 minute walk or taxi ride from Yuyuan Garden, is Shanghai’s premier shopping street.
It is lined with large department stores, shops, and street food vendors,
and walking along this street naturally leads you to The Bund.

Evening – The Bund & Night View
Take a stroll along the Huangpu River to admire European-style buildings and the skyscrapers of the Pudong New Area simultaneously.
At sunset, it’s perfect to end your day by going up to a rooftop café or bar to overlook the Shanghai nightscape.

Though short, this itinerary is enough to experience Shanghai’s iconic route where traditional Chinese architecture and urban charm coexist.
