Walking through Yuyuan Market, a classic Chinese market

Walking through Yuyuan Market (Yuyuan Garden) in light rain ☔️🍜

If you come to Shanghai and want to explore a classic Chinese market, I highly recommend Yuyuan Market. Take subway line 10 or 14 to Yuyuan Garden Station, then walk a short distance.

The day I went, it was drizzling with a slightly cool breeze, making the walk very comfortable. The atmosphere was wonderful with old wooden buildings and red lanterns lining both sides of the street, perfect for photos from every angle.

Must-try food: hot xiaolongbao from street vendors, spicy mala skewers, and red bean paste buns.

Lots of souvenirs: Chinese fans, tea, embroidered fabrics, and various Chinese-style trinkets. I believe anyone who visits will definitely bring some souvenirs home, haha.

If you walk to the arched bridge in the middle of the market, you'll find a highlight spot with a pond and beautiful light reflections, especially in the evening.

I recommend going in the late morning to afternoon and spending about half a day strolling around. If you wait until evening, you’ll enjoy the beautiful illuminated atmosphere, which is a different kind of charm.
