Shanghai Zoo: A Green Escape in the City

If you ever feel like taking a break from Shanghai’s hustle and bustle, head to Shanghai Zoo. Located near Hongqiao Airport, it is one of the largest zoos in China and doubles as a vast city park.
Covering more than 180 hectares, the zoo offers leafy walking paths, lakes, and tranquil gardens. It is less about rushing from cage to cage and more about enjoying a slow walk through greenery while spotting animals along the way.
The highlight for most visitors is, of course, the giant pandas. Watching them munch bamboo or nap in the shade is a must. In total, the zoo is home to over 600 animal species, from tigers and Asian elephants to rare birds and African wildlife.
While especially popular for family outings thanks to playgrounds and cafés, the zoo is also a hidden gem for travelers who want to swap skyscrapers for nature and spend a relaxed afternoon outdoors.
