A classical Jiangnan garden hidden within a modern park, every step is filled with poetic beauty.
Within the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Park lies a hidden gem of a Jiangnan garden known as "Shen Garden." This five-hectare garden within a garden perfectly recreates the essence of traditional Jiangnan gardens from the Ming and Qing dynasties, becoming a representative example of Shanghai's new famous gardens.
Eight Scenic Spots of Shen Garden: The Ultimate Display of Poetic Jiangnan
Shen Garden's most captivating feature are its eight meticulously crafted landscapes, each with a poetic name and unique artistic conception:
· Drunken Red Reflecting the Clouds: The hillside just inside the garden's south gate, where azaleas in full bloom in spring, resemble a rosy glow, with the understory carpeted with nearly 30 varieties of azaleas.
· Coke Late Ferry: The waterfront landscape at the entrance to the Magnolia Pavilion, where towering ancient trees enhance the historical feel of the residence and recreate the waterside lifestyle of Jiangnan water towns.
· Jade Hall in Spring: Within the Magnolia Pavilion complex, magnolias and osmanthus are planted, symbolizing "spring prosperity in a Jade Hall," a sentiment echoing the Shanghai flower.
· Pine, Stone, and Spring Flow: Featuring a rockery with cascading waterfalls, Taihu rocks are artificially stacked, and a clear stream meanders through the rocks, forming multiple cascades.
· Quyun Tianxiang: Featuring quyi performances and peony viewing, the waterside pavilion serves as both a resting area and a viewing platform.
Autumn River Sunset: From the Yilan Pavilion, the highest point on Beishan Mountain, at sunset in autumn, you can gaze north towards the Huangpu River and south towards the park's lake.
Misty Penglai: Three islands are built on Danfeng Lake, inheriting the traditional garden design of "one pond, three mountains." The lakeside "Misty Rain Tower" offers panoramic views.
Lotus Breeze and Fish Joy: At the west entrance, around the Five-Curve Bridge and the Ouxiang Pavilion, lotus flowers fill the lake, with fish frolicking underwater. Watching the fish and lotuses is like walking through a picturesque scene.
