Into the Heart of Napa Haiguiqing Grassland 🌿

#yunnanspots

Tucked just 6–8 km northwest of Shangri-La town, high on the Tibetan plateau at about 3,266 meters, lies Napa Haiguiqing Grassland (also called Napahai / Yila Grassland of Napa Lake) — where seasons rewrite the landscape.

What Makes It Magical💫

🐎Riding a horse through the vast Napa Haiguiqing Grassland felt like freedom in its purest form. The wind carried the scent of wildflowers, yaks grazed in the distance, and snow-capped mountains framed the horizon. 🏔️✨

🍃Seasonal transformation: After the rainy months, water swells in the basin; lake surfaces expand, turning parts of the grassland into shimmering mirrors reflecting skies and snow peaks. In the dry seasons, the lake recedes, revealing vast marsh meadows and sweeping pastures where yaks, horses, sheep, and herds graze free under an endless sky.

🦬Wildlife haven: The area is a nature reserve protecting plateau wetlands and seasonal marshes. It’s a wintering spot for migratory birds like the Black-necked Crane, bar-headed geese, and other waterfowl.

🌸Floral and pastoral beauty: Wildflowers bloom in summer (roses, wild peonies, chrysanthemums among them), creating bursts of colour against grass and water. Grazing livestock add life, sounds, motion—bells, hooves, lowing—all blending with the wind.
