Transit in Shenzhen: From the Futuristic Metropolis to Shantou’s Coastal Charm

#chinatransit

With a quick transit through Shenzhen, I took the opportunity to experience both the city’s modern pulse and the seaside heritage of Shantou, blending tech-driven innovation with old-world charm.

Starting in Shenzhen, I explored the city’s cutting-edge architecture at Shenzhen Bay Park, where the skyline stretched across the shimmering water. A quick visit to Huaqiangbei, the world’s largest electronics market, gave me a glimpse into China’s tech capital before I hopped on a high-speed train to Shantou.

Arriving in Shantou, the atmosphere shifted from futuristic to nostalgic. Walking through Shantou’s Old Town, I admired the arcade-style buildings, remnants of the city’s history as a key treaty port. A stop at Nan’ao Island revealed stunning coastal scenery, with golden beaches and fresh sea breezes.

No visit would be complete without indulging in Chaoshan cuisine—I savored a bowl of rich, flavorful beef hotpot and the delicate taste of Shantou oyster omelet.

From Shenzhen’s skyscrapers to Shantou’s timeless streets and coastal beauty, this transit felt like traveling through two different worlds—one of rapid progress, and the other of rich tradition.
