[Kyoto] Thirteen-story stone pagoda on Uji's floating island

The thirteen-story stone pagoda on Pagoda Island is designated an Important Cultural Property. Approximately 15 meters tall, it was erected in the late Kamakura period to commemorate the souls of fish. Submerged in a flood in 1766, the pagoda was discovered in the Meiji period and rebuilt, remaining standing to this day. It is one of the largest stone pagodas in Japan. Nakanoshima, also known for its cherry blossoms, is a recommended tourist spot for its scenic views.
