Here’s your travel cheat sheet for Shenzhen, China — a city unlike any other, jet-set from fishing village to futuristic metropolis in under 40 years 🚀🏙️
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Ping An Finance Centre (No. 5033, Yitian Road, Futian District, open 9am–10pm) — Sky-high panoramic views from the 116th floor and seriously epic selfies. Get there before sunset for the best city light show!
2. Huaqiangbei Electronics Market (Huaqiang North Road, Futian, open daily 10am–6pm) — Gadget heads, rejoice: you’ll find everything from phone parts to robots. Even if you aren’t buying, it’s like walking through a tech carnival!
3. OCT Loft Creative Culture Park (E, Overseas Chinese Town, Nanshan District, open 10am–10pm) — Chill with locals in artsy coffee bars, browse galleries, and discover quirky design shops.
4. Dafen Oil Painting Village (Buji Subdistrict, Longgang District, open 9am–6pm) — Watch artists at work making copies of the Mona Lisa or commission your own custom portrait.
Insider Tip: Shenzhen is totally walkable in major districts — but hop on the clean, blisteringly fast metro for long hops (download a metro map before you go!). Use WeChat Pay almost everywhere, but bring cash if you plan to bargain at markets. Weather-wise, pack light — Shenzhen stays humid and warm most of the year.
Foodie Finds: Try the dim sum at Laurel Restaurant (Futian, inside CITIC City Plaza) and don’t miss roadside bubble tea stands for a tasty pick-me-up.
Visa info: Most travelers need a visa. If you’re coming from Hong Kong, a five-day Shenzhen visa is available at the port (bring passport-sized photos!).
