【Izu】Experience Japanese Culture at "Toto Shoten"

When visiting Shimoda in Izu, make sure to stop by the "Toto Shoten" Kura Gallery. It's just a 12-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station.

Here, you can explore vintage signs and goods related to traditional sake, as well as items used in old-fashioned shops, offering a glimpse into Shimoda's history.

Admission is free, and the interior exudes a charming retro atmosphere.

The building, a merchant house established during the Meiji era, features Izu stone and Namako walls, and is recognized as a "Shimoda Town Heritage" site.

The gallery is operated by the liquor store across the street, so after enjoying the history here, be sure to visit the store and pick up some sake 🍶.
