【Ryugu Cave】
Why it's recommended:
A highly popular natural wonder of the Izu Peninsula, featuring a sea cave surrounded by crystal-clear blue waters. The cave's spiraling rock formations resemble the entrance to a dragon's palace, creating a spectacular sight. It's a 15-minute drive from Shimoda Port, and the sea breeze at the entrance is refreshing. From the top of the cave, you can capture stunning heart-shaped sea erosion photos!
Address: Touni, Shimoda, Shizuoka 415-0029
Operating Hours: Open year-round, all day
Must-visit spot: The center of the cave entrance & the photo spot at the top of the cave.
Tips: Rocks can be slippery on rainy days, so wear sports shoes. The cave is cool and airy, so bring a light jacket to stay warm.
【Cape Irozaki】
Why it's recommended:
The southernmost cape of Minamiizu, offering expansive views of majestic sea cliffs. Walk along the trail to the Irozaki Lighthouse, where you can spot seabirds and enjoy unbeatable ocean vistas. There's also a small shrine nearby to experience local beliefs. On holidays, it's best to arrive early; after 3 PM, the crowd thins out, making it ideal for a leisurely sunset view.
