[Yamaguchi] A must-see for history buffs! Introducing the Kanmon Strait and nearby tourist spots

The Kanmon Strait, which straddles Yamaguchi Prefecture and Kitakyushu City, is a strategic point connecting Honshu and Kyushu, and has been an important place in history since ancient times.

On the Yamaguchi Prefecture side, there is the site of the Dannoura Battlefield, where the Battle of Dannoura, the final battle leading to the downfall of the Taira clan in the Genpei War of the Heian period, took place, and it was also the site of the Shimonoseki War from 1863 to 1864.

Even today, there is a statue of Minamoto no Yoshitsune and a monument of a gun battery modeled after the Shimonoseki War, making it a popular tourist spot.
