Walking around Narai-juku, a post town remaining on the Kiso Road

Narai-juku is a post town in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture.

This area along the Nakasendo Road has particularly well-preserved townscape from the past, and walking through the streets lined with wooden houses makes you feel as if you've traveled back in time to the Edo period.

At the end of a gentle slope is a water source with pure spring water and a magnificent wooden arched bridge. The moss and plants visible along the roadside also add to the nostalgic scenery.

Today, I stayed at BYAKU Narai, a renovated inn located in a building that was over 100 years old.

I spent a quiet evening in a space where history and modern comfort come together in harmony.

Halfway through my stroll, I stopped by Izumiya Cafe for a seasonal parfait made with fruits from Shinshu.
The combination of the old townscape visible through the window and the carefully crafted sweets was particularly impressive.

A town where time flows quietly, and history is felt with every step.
More than a tourist destination, this was a trip that allowed me to experience a "scenery where life continues."
