Tokuganji Temple overlooking Shizuoka city

This mountain in Suruga Ward, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, offers a panoramic view of Shizuoka city.
On clear days, Mt. Fuji and the Izu Peninsula can be clearly seen, and you can enjoy the scenery of Shizuoka, including Suruga Bay and the Abe River.
You can drive up to the observation deck and Tokugan-ji Temple, but it is also charming to walk up the moss-covered approach to the temple.
The mountain's name is "Okuboyama Daia-san," and it is a Soto Zen temple that was founded and converted in 1457 by Kitagawa-dono, the younger sister of Hojo Soun, the wife of Imagawa Yoshitada, and the mother of Imagawa Ujichika, whose grave is also enshrined here. There is a small pond near Kitagawa-dono's grave, and ducks are always bustling about.

The predecessor of Tokugan-ji Temple is the Shingon sect temple "Okubo-ji Temple", which was founded in 717 on the summit of this mountain to worship the Thousand-Armed Thousand-Eyed Kannon Bodhisattva, one of the "Suruga Seven Kannon" and the principal image, said to have been made by Gyoki.

It is also a famous spot for camellias. It is the 12th temple of the "Suruga Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage", and the hymn is "The bonds of earthly desires are now Tokugan-ji Temple, and these are also the tears of great compassion".

It takes about 30 minutes to get up from the foot of the mountain. It is perfect for a short hike. Please enjoy the view of Shizuoka City from the summit.
