Baphuon Temple, located within the walls of Angkor Thom, is a marvel of ancient engineering and modern restoration. This 11th-century temple, with its imposing pyramid structure, was once one of the most impressive monuments of the Khmer Empire. However, centuries of neglect and the collapse of its intricate design left it in ruins.

What makes Baphuon truly remarkable is the decades-long restoration project that has painstakingly rebuilt the temple piece by piece. During my visit, I was amazed by the dedication and skill required to restore this architectural masterpiece. The temple’s intricate bas-reliefs, depicting scenes from Hindu epics, and the massive reclining Buddha on the western side are testaments to its rich history and cultural significance.
