Tucked inside the vast Singapore Botanic Gardens is a lesser-known gem — a preserved 6-hectare rainforest, one of the few primary rainforests still remaining in Singapore. This thriving ecosystem predates the Gardens themselves and offers a glimpse into what the island once looked like before urban development.
As you walk along the Rainforest Boardwalk, you’re surrounded by towering dipterocarp trees, dense foliage, and the calls of native birds and insects. Over 300 species of flora reside here, some of which are endangered or rare in Southeast Asia. It’s a living classroom and a peaceful retreat where nature speaks for itself.
Interpretive signs along the trail share insights about the ecology, biodiversity, and conservation efforts. The shaded path and elevated platforms make it an easy, immersive experience for visitors of all ages.
This rainforest patch also plays an important educational role, helping visitors understand the importance of biodiversity and the challenges of conservation in an urban context. It's an ideal spot for quiet reflection or introducing children to the wonders of the natural world.
Located near the Tanglin Gate entrance, this area is free to explore and is best enjoyed in the early morning or late afternoon when the light filters beautifully through the canopy.
