The Last Chinese Bungalow in Little India

You may have seen this building, but you don't know the name. It's Tan Teng Niah, a Chinese businessman who owned several sweet-making factories along Serangoon Road.

The design is very unique as a Chinese historic building sitting in the middle of Little India Singapore.

Built in 1900, the house was restored and conserved in 1980s. this heritage building is the most visited and instagramable in Little India. It has featured in various local and international television dramas and variety shows, including The Asian Next Top Models.

I love the design of this building; very colorful and reminds me of Kue Lapis. It's the design of Sothern Chinese and European vibes as well. I felt it is like the Peranakan house. In 2019, this heritage building was valued at 71 million.

Best to get here:
Take MRT Purple Line, stop at Little India, and take E exit. Once you reach the street level, walk to your right side, it is located next to several shophouses.

Alternative: Take a public bus no 23, 64, 65, 67, 132, 139, 147, 857 and stop in front of Tekka Market. Walk up to the next traffic light and turn left.
