Stroll through the park’s extensive grounds, enjoy the lakes, ancient pines and open green space; visit the Zhaoling Mausoleum (the imperial tomb of the Qing emperor) nestled within the park and view its historic architecture; relax or picnic by the lake, watch locals practising tai-chi, kite flying, or experience seasonal blooms or snow scenes depending on the time of year.

Beiling Park is located in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It is the largest park in Shenyang, covering an area of 3.3 million square meters.
In 1643 (the eighth year of Chongde in the Qing Dynasty), the Zhaoling Mausoleum, the tomb of Emperor Taizong of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Taiji, and Empress Xiaoduanwen, Borjigit, was completed.
In 1927, the Fengtian Provincial Government designated the Qing Zhaoling Mausoleum as a park, and it was named so because it is located in the northern part of the city.
The Zhaoling Mausoleum of the Qing Dynasty is one of the famous scenic spots and historical sites in Shenyang. It is the essence of ancient Chinese architecture and a typical example of cultural exchange between the Han, Manchu and Mongolian ethnic groups.
Fangcheng is the main part of the mausoleum, and its structure is similar to that of Fangcheng in Fuling.
Beiling has both ancient traditional buildings and modern garden facilities. Standing in the garden, you can recall the past and the present, which makes you feel full of emotion. It is a must-see place for tourists from home and abroad to Shenyang.

Beiling Park was established in 1927 on the grounds of the Zhaoling Mausoleum of the early Qing Dynasty. The mausoleum was built between 1643 and 1651 and is the largest and best-preserved imperial tomb in the “Three Outside the Great Wall” series. The park blends imperial mausoleum heritage with urban green space.
It is located at No. 12 Taishan Road, Huanggu District, Shenyang, Liaoning Province. You can reach it by:
The park is open early in the morning (some sources say from about 5:00 AM) and closes around 9:30 PM. For the tomb area there are more restricted hours (e.g., 08:30 AM-05:00 PM). Best times: spring for blossoms, autumn for foliage, and early morning/late afternoon for lighting and fewer crowds.
General park entry is very inexpensive (e.g., around ¥6 CNY according to one source). The tomb area (Zhaoling) requires a separate ticket (e.g., ~¥30-50 depending on season). Tickets can be bought offline at the entrance; online booking may also be available via Chinese platforms.
Booking in advance is generally not strictly required for the park itself. However if you are visiting during major holidays or peak season you may consider securing tickets (especially for the tomb area) a day or two in advance to avoid queues.
You can spend about 1-2 hours for a casual stroll; for a more relaxed exploration including the tomb area, lakes and park corners allocate 2-3 hours. If you plan photography, leisure, and perhaps boat ride, allocate half a day.
Highlights:
There is no widely advertised standard audio-guide system for Beiling Park. Some guided tours (in Mandarin and possibly English) may be available via local tour agencies. Independent exploration is common.
Recommended spots:
Suggested route: enter through the main park gate → walk through the tree-lined path to the mausoleum gate → explore the tomb complex (sacred way, stele pavilion, Long’en Hall) → return via the lakeside trail and gardens → finish by relaxing by the lake or joining local leisure activities. You can adapt depending on your timing and pace.
While the park is open into the evening, there are no widely documented large light-shows specific to the location. Evening strolls are pleasant; some ice & snow events (during winter) exist in the park area.
The park can be busy during weekends, holidays and peak seasons (spring blossom, autumn foliage). The least crowded times are weekday mornings or late afternoons outside major holiday windows. Visiting in non-peak months also helps.
Facilities include restroom blocks, benches, lakeside promenade, small food stalls or cafés near park entrances. Shops dedicated to tourism may be limited; bring water/snacks if exploring deeper into the park.
The park terrain is mostly flat along promenades and paths, making it suitable for children and reasonably mobile elderly visitors. Some parts (mausoleum steps, walking significant distance) may be more strenuous. Wheelchair users may find some paths accessible but check specific zones.
Tickets can be purchased onsite; many vendors in urban Shenyang accept mobile payments (Alipay, WeChat Pay) but carrying some cash is always advisable especially for smaller stalls or in less-touristy areas.
Nearby in the Huanggu District around Taishan Road and the park’s perimeter you will find local restaurants, cafés and snack stalls. Inside the park, near main entrances there are kiosks or refreshment stands but fewer full-scale dining options.
As with many urban Chinese sites, vegetarian options may exist (vegetarian dishes in restaurants nearby). Halal food is available in Shenyang though likely more in designated Muslim restaurants in town than within the park itself.
Shenyang city centre and specifically the Huanggu District around the park have hotels ranging from budget to mid-range. Staying close to the park gives easy early access and convenience for returning after a visit.
You can combine with the Shenyang Imperial Palace (Mukden Palace) located in central Shenyang; the city’s old town; or visiting other parks and green spaces around the city.
Souvenir options around the park entrances include local handicrafts, postcards, small art pieces featuring Shenyang history, and seasonal local products. Inside the park they are limited; best to buy in nearby commercial streets.
After visiting, you can take metro Line 2 from Beilinggongyuan Station to other parts of Shenyang, or taxi/ride-hail. Bus routes around the park also link to other city areas. For further travel, you could continue to other Shenyang attractions or transfer to long-distance transport hubs (Shenyang North Railway Station) which is nearby.
