Dutch Square (Red Square)

This trip on Genting Dream was amazing! 🚢 We stayed in a balcony stateroom — super comfy with a great view. Although this time the package didn’t include Wi-Fi, we got SGD 50 onboard credit per night (3 nights total), which could be used at all the specialty restaurants — such a nice perk! 🍽️
✨ Food on board was fantastic — seriously, every meal was delicious! The laksa was absolutely unforgettable 😋👏👏👏
🏯 Stop 1: Malacca
Malacca is quite small and easy to explore. After disembarking, just walk straight to the main road, turn left, and a short stroll will take you to the famous Red Square (Dutch Square). Most attractions are clustered around this area — super convenient! The only place that required a Grab ride was the Straits of Malacca viewpoint, but it was cheap.
🍛 Must try: Peranakan (Nyonya) cuisine — flavorful and unique! Definitely worth it.
🌈 Stop 2: Penang
Here’s where I made my biggest mistake — I didn’t plan enough for Penang, which is basically a food paradise 🍜🍢🍰 and a durian lover’s heaven!
Georgetown has many attractions, but they are quite small and can be covered on foot. Honestly, they were not that exciting, especially Street Art Lane, which felt a bit overrated. We skipped Penang Hill as it’s quite far.
Durian lovers, rejoice — I tried the famous “Hermès” Black Thorn at Durian Heaven and it was pretty good. The Old Tree Kampung durian was a bit too sweet for me.
📸 Photo tip: Georgetown’s colorful architecture is stunning, blending European, Chinese, Indian, and Malay influences — perfect for taking photos!
🤦 Looking back, I realized I missed out on so many famous local dishes… Guess I’ll just have to come back next year and eat my heart out!
