Hi~ I'm Coco Mom, who loves traveling with kids! In September, Ruoergai's grasslands shed their green and don a continuous golden hue, with snow-capped mountains as the backdrop and rivers like silver ribbons—it's the perfect natural classroom for parent-child learning! Here’s our 4 days and 3 nights practical guide👇
🚗 Itinerary
Day 1: Chengdu → Songpan Ancient Town (5-hour drive, stay in Songpan)
• Stroll the ancient town in the evening, tell the kids stories about the Tea Horse Road, and get used to the altitude.
Day 2: Songpan → Ruoergai Grassland → First Bend of the Yellow River (stay in Tangke Town)
• Stop along the way to take photos of scenery like the Windows desktop wallpaper; herds of yaks and Tibetan sheep excite the kids!
• Arrive at the First Bend of the Yellow River before 4 PM, take the elevator up to the viewing platform, and watch the sunset cast a breathtaking glow on the winding river!
Day 3: Huahu Ecological Tour → Zhagana Canyon Light Hiking (stay in Ruoergai County)
• The Huahu boardwalk is very easy to walk, take the kids to identify water birds and watch wild ducks; remember to bring binoculars!
• One-hour hike in Zhagana Canyon, with babbling streams; pick a red leaf to make a bookmark.
Day 4: Return trip via Waqie Forest → Chengdu
• Take Tibetan costume family photos in the Hongyuan forest of towers, and pray under prayer flags for a meaningful ritual!
📌 Parent-Child Exclusive Tips
Altitude over 3500m, prepare oxygen bottles for the kids in advance (20 RMB per bottle at pharmacies), move slowly, avoid running and jumping.
The grassland has large temperature differences between day and night; dress in layers: windbreaker + thin down jacket + sun hat, sunscreen is a must!
Eat light meals; there are Sichuan restaurants in the county town, and you can bring snacks for the kids.
🌟 Hidden Activities
• Visit a herdsman’s home to milk cows (about 30 RMB per person), let the kids hand-roll tsampa, and experience Tibetan life!
• Stargaze on the grassland at dusk, find constellations, and see the Milky Way clearly!
Autumn in Ruoergai is vast and gentle—bring your kids to this golden memory!💛
