Zhengzhou Museum, located at 168 Songshan South Road, Zhengzhou, is a comprehensive local museum. The original site of the museum was located in Bishagang Park, covering an area of 4,330 square meters. The new building, located at 168 Songshan South Road, Zhengzhou, covers an area of 14.8 acres and has a construction area of 14,206 square meters.
The Zhengzhou Museum, formerly the Zhengzhou Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall, was established in August 1928. It was officially established in 1957 and named the Zhengzhou Museum. In 1997, the Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to build a new museum. The new museum was completed and opened to the public on December 28, 1999.
On May 18, 2008, Zhengzhou Museum was rated as a "National First-Class Museum".
The main exhibition hall of the Zhengzhou Museum is based on a Shang Dynasty bronze square tripod unearthed in Zhengzhou. Its circular, dish-shaped roof symbolizes the idea that the heaven is round and the earth is square, and the tripod stands tall in the Central Plains. The circular dish-shaped roof atop the building alludes to the ancient philosophical concept of the heaven being round and the earth being square.
