I visited the Expo '70 Commemorative Park during the peak of spring to see the cherry blossoms! With the iconic Tower of the Sun as a backdrop, the sight of approximately 5,500 cherry trees blooming all at once was truly breathtaking. Among the highlights was the long cherry blossom avenue in the Natural and Cultural Gardens' East Road, which felt like walking through a tunnel of cherry blossoms!
Starting with Kawazu and Higan cherry blossoms blooming from mid-March, the park is gradually painted in soft pink hues by Somei Yoshino and weeping cherry blossoms, reaching their peak in early April—a truly splendid sight. Not only are the blossoms stunning during the day, but at night, the cherry blossom avenue is illuminated, offering a magical view of the blossoms under the lights.
At the festival plaza, the SAKURA EXPO featured stalls selling cherry blossom-themed sweets and light snacks, creating a picnic-like atmosphere in the spring sunshine! Spreading out a mat on the spacious lawn and relaxing while admiring the cherry blossoms was a luxurious experience that nourished both the body and soul.
With convenient access from the station and parking lot, visiting early on weekdays or in the morning allows for a more leisurely experience—a definite plus. This park left me wanting to return next year to refresh myself amidst the cherry blossoms once again 😊
