A nearly 1,200-year-old pedestrian street in Gusu District, Suzhou, starting from Xichang Lane at the foot of Huqiu Mountain in the west to Duseng Bridge on the ancient canal outside Changmen in the east, with a total length of 3,829.6 meters.
According to records, in the second year of Tang Baoli (825), the great poet Bai Juyi was transferred from Hangzhou to the governor of Suzhou. In order to facilitate Suzhou's water and land transportation, he dug a Shantang River from Huqiu in the west to Changmen in the east. A road was built in the north of Shantang River, which is called "Shantang Street", Shantang River and Shantang Street are about seven miles long, called "Seven Miles of Shantang".
Shantang Street is crowded with people during the Chinese New Year, and the various characteristic lanterns on Shantang Street at night complement each other with the lights of the stores. Many young ladies put on ancient costumes and took colorful photos in the streets of this ancient town in Jiangnan at night. There are also many costume shops in the street. You can experience dressing up on site.
The lake boat tour is also a special feature, but it was abandoned because there were too many people lining up during the Chinese New Year.
The most convenient transportation part is the nearby Shantang Subway Station.
