The 'Confucius Temple' near the Yizhong Street shopping district is a rare example of Song Dynasty palace-style architecture in Taiwan. It is always open to the public for free, making it a great place to take a break during a walk around town. Here, you can learn about the history of the Confucius Temple, read explanations about the artifacts inside, and admire the exquisite architectural complex.
When the construction was initially planned, various documents were consulted, and opinions from scholars and experts were gathered. As a result, the Song Dynasty palace-style architecture was adopted to highlight the differences from the nearby Martyrs' Shrine, which features Qing Dynasty palace-style architecture and colorful decorations. The layout of the architectural complex was inspired by the 'Qufu Confucius Temple' in China.
At the 'Taichung Confucius Temple,' prayers for academic success are offered during exam seasons for students and examinees. Additionally, the temple cooperates in hosting events such as sketching sessions, playing a role in promoting and preserving culture.
