Zero Space Incubation Space is an arts and cultural space in Taichung that combines architectural beauty with cultural activities. Below is a detailed introduction:
⸻
Basic Information and Background
• Affiliation: Designed and operated by Lioho Construction.
• Program: A venue for exhibitions, lectures, events, and cultural exchange, while also serving as a space for giving back to the community and citizens.
• The official website lists upcoming exhibitions and events.
⸻
Architectural Design and Features
• Architectural Design: Designed by Qingqi Design / Su Jingqi Architectural Interior Design Institute, in collaboration with Lioho Construction Design Department and Hsu Hsien-rui Architects.
• Design Concept: "Existential Design" (sense of presence, time remembrance, natural mirroring, light and shadow) is the core approach.
• Massing: The exterior is constructed using a "large frame enclosing small boxes" design. Openings in each box allow light and visuals to enter, while interspersed with voids, creating a sense of connection as one moves through the space.
• Light and Shadow Design:
- During the day, natural light is introduced through different orientations and skylights to create a changing atmosphere.
- At night, lighting is used to create a play on the edges of the volume, allowing the flow and movement between the exterior and interior to be observed.
• Spatial Configuration and Circulation:
- The site's irregular topography provides two openings to the road, each with a different street context: one side faces a bustling thoroughfare, while the other faces a river and residential areas. The building is designed with two-way entrances to control access according to the intended use.
- The clock tower is one of the visual endpoints, with access to the performance hall through the atrium; another entrance leads through the pool's door frame into the interior.
• Landscape and Waterscape: A still pool reflects the architecture and sculptures, while a light cascade and bottom-lit lighting create a nighttime image.
⸻
Location and Transportation
• Address: No. 308, Section 3, Taiwan Boulevard, Xitun District, Taichung City
• Located across from Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, it offers convenient transportation.
• The surrounding open areas are generally free to visit and photograph; indoor spaces (exhibitions/lectures) may have limited or no admission depending on the event.
⸻
Photographic Highlights
• Exposed concrete building: Grayscale tones and clean lines are the hallmarks of the incubation space.
• Marble walls: A popular backdrop for photo-taking.
• Translucent stairs/floating stairs: Create rich, layered light and shadow effects in photos under specific lighting conditions.
• Water reflections: The still water reflects the building and the sky, creating a sense of symmetry or a dreamlike effect.
• Clock tower: As a visual landmark, the clock tower is often the focal point of photographic compositions.
