It is a commercial district located in the northeast of Wanhua District, Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.
During the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the northern part of Mengxia, and the name Ximending was created during the Japanese occupation, and Zheng (pronounced 'cho' or 'machi' in Japanese) is the name of a Japanese administrative district.
At that time, it included parts of Chengdu Road, Xining South Road, Kunming Street, and Kangding Road, and today, it has expanded further and is also referred to as Luozhuding and Xinqiding District.
Originally, it was a desolate area outside the west gate of Taipei City, but after Japan colonized it, it was developed into a commercial district modeled after Asakusa, a bustling area in Tokyo.
