Kyoto is home to many ancient temples, rich in architecture, art, culture, and historical value.

Nishi Hongan-ji, located near Kyoto Station, is a temple of the Jodo Shinju sect of Buddhism. Built in 1591 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the temple grounds are spacious, clean, and peaceful, despite being in the heart of the city.

The two main buildings, Goeido Hall and Amidado Hall, are excellent examples of architecture from the Momoyama and early Edo periods.

Admission is free, except for the upper part of the entrance hall, which costs 400 yen.

This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
