Taipei's Iconic Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is not just a memorial but also a massive public park. On sunny days, the Liberty Square between the National Theater and National Concert Hall is bustling with people dancing, skateboarding, or letting their kids run around. The atmosphere is incredibly lively!

One thing to note is that the square has almost no shade, so it can get extremely sunny during summer. If you plan to visit, it's best to come in the evening or be well-prepared with sun protection.

The changing of the guard ceremony takes place every hour from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily. If you want to catch it, make sure to plan your time accordingly. After watching the ceremony, you can explore the exhibition hall downstairs, which features displays about Chiang Kai-shek's life and modern Taiwanese history.

There are three main highlights to check out here:
🔺 Main Building (Memorial Hall): The centerpiece is the bronze statue of Chiang Kai-shek on the fourth floor, and the "Tri-Service Honor Guard Changing Ceremony" that happens every hour. The rifle-spinning performance is incredibly impressive, and many visitors come specifically to see this. The guards' movements are so precise, it's like watching a slow-motion video—definitely worth seeing!
🔺 National Theater & National Concert Hall: These two grand palace-style buildings with yellow roofs flank the square. Even if you don't attend a performance, just taking photos outside is awe-inspiring.
🔺 Surrounding Park: The memorial is surrounded by a large traditional Chinese garden with fish ponds, small bridges, and flowing water. It's a stark contrast to the square's lively vibe, offering a serene spot for a stroll.

Personally, I love visiting in the evening, sitting on the steps of the square, and watching the sunset turn the roofs of the National Theater and Concert Hall golden—it's truly breathtaking.

Entry/Visit: Completely free (except for ticketed performances or special exhibitions at the National Theater and Concert Hall).

🚍 Transportation Info:
Take the MRT Tamsui-Xinyi Line or Songshan-Xindian Line to "Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station" and exit at Exit 5. It's incredibly convenient! There is a paid parking lot below, but since it's in the city center, public transportation is highly recommended.
