【Miyazaki, Japan】Takachiho Gorge: A natural miracle formed by volcanic eruptions

Takachiho Gorge is located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan🇯🇵. It is one of the most famous natural attractions in the area and is also known as one of the most beautiful places in Japan🤩.

Follow a narrow path under the Takachiho Gorge Bridge 🚶♂️ to enter the depths of this magnificent canyon. As soon as I entered the canyon, I was shocked by the scenery in front of me. Towering rock walls stand around the trail, and rushing rivers flow beside it. Everything exudes a primitive and spectacular power.

Takachiho Gorge was formed about 100,000 years ago when the river carried debris from the eruption of Mount Aso. After the lava cooled, it was eroded by the Gokase River over the years to form the current cliff. From the columnar rocks on both sides of the trail, you can see traces of the eruption of Mount Aso 😌.

While listening to the guide explaining the geological formation of Takachiho Gorge and local legends, we admired the surrounding rugged rocks. Near the end of the trail, the Manai Falls, selected as one of the 100 famous waterfalls in Japan, appeared before your eyes💦.

There are vertical steep cliffs on both sides of the waterfall. The waterfall pours down from a high place, forming a beautiful water curtain. Under the sunlight, the waterfall and the river reflect colorful light🌈, making people feel as if they are in a fairyland☺️.
