🏛 Modernism & Udon Magic in Kagawa

Kagawa is a true paradise for art and architecture lovers—and a recent visit proved exactly that. We started at the Kagawa Prefectural Government Office East Building, a stunning modernist structure designed by the legendary Kenzo Tange, with contributions from local painter Genichiro Inokuma and interior designer Isamu Kenmochi. It’s not just a government building—it’s a living piece of architectural history and now recognized as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

After soaking in the clean lines and cultural depth, we joined the epic queue at Udon Bakayaro, one of the most popular udon spots in town. We waited for an hour (yes, it’s that famous!) to try their top-selling Kama-Butter Udon. And let me tell you—it was absolutely worth it. Thick, hot noodles topped with butter, black pepper, and egg, finished with a splash of soy-based sauce—it tasted like a Japanese-style carbonara. Pure umami comfort.
