Nakabashi Bridge, the red bridge in Takayama

April in Takayama carries a hint of sweetness in the air. The moment I stepped onto Nakabashi Bridge, I understood why this place is often called "Little Kyoto of Hida."
Nakabashi is painted a vivid red—striking yet elegant, like a brushstroke of crimson ink on a traditional Japanese landscape. Along the riverbanks, cherry blossoms are in full bloom, their pale pink and white petals drifting gently onto the bridge, the river, and even my shoulders, as if the entire spring season is whispering softly here.
This bridge spans the Miyagawa River, leading to the charming old town district. In the morning, you can buy freshly grilled Hida beef skewers at the market, and in the afternoon, take a leisurely stroll along the riverside, watching the cherry blossom reflections sway in the water. During sakura season, Hida feels like a living painting, but my favorite moment is standing at the center of the bridge, watching the petals dance in the breeze—everything feels just right.
Don’t miss this seasonal dream. The cherry blossoms at Nakabashi return every year, waiting for you to take a slow, enchanting walk.
