Gifu Local Cuisine: Relish Takayama's Delights

Take the JR Takayama Main Line from Gifu Station and travel through the mountains for about an hour and a half. Located in the northern part of Gifu Prefecture, Takayama City is filled with nostalgic old-town charm and a variety of local delicacies. 🍁

・Hida Beef (Hoba Miso)
Enjoy Hida beef dishes conveniently for lunch. Being close to Nagoya, dishes featuring miso, such as Hoba Miso, are highly recommended. Savor these meals in the atmospheric old houses in the heart of the tourist area.

・Takayama Ramen
Takayama's local ramen is a simple soy sauce-based dish with a light and non-overpowering flavor. The city center is lined with numerous ramen shops. This ramen also appeared in the movie "Your Name."

・Mitarashi Dango and Gohei Mochi
Why not try freshly grilled and made-to-order treats outdoors? Several shops offer these delights.

Takayama retains a traditional Japanese townscape, offering a quieter and more relaxed experience compared to Kyoto, making it a hidden gem for tourists. It is recommended to combine your visit with nearby attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go or Gero City, home to Gero Onsen, one of Japan's top three hot spring areas.

From Tokyo, you can access Takayama via Kanazawa or Nagoya. From Osaka, you can reach it by train or bus from Gifu. (Note: Tickets for the JR Takayama Main Line must be purchased in advance. They are available at Gifu Station. Please note that transportation IC cards cannot be used.)

The town itself is small, so you can fully enjoy it in a day. Why not take a trip to experience the leisurely Japanese summer? 🍉
